Wake Up and Live.

I came across this foto this morning…

wake up and live

Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?  Oh, that’s all I have to do.  Isn’t that what I do everyday?  But what does this statement really mean?  I can tell you now that it’s going to take a few cups of coffee this morning to wake me up, but we all know this statement goes deeper than that.

I was reading Proverbs 24:30-32 today.  What I really liked about this passage is the different way it is written.  For those of you, who have studied Proverbs, you know it can sometimes read as a list of guidelines as Solomon shares his wisdom.  But in this particular passage, it reads as though he is telling a bit of a story, sharing a moment in his life, though brief, it is a nice change of pace and stands out to me, just as the quote above did.

He explains, “I went past the field of the sluggard, past the vineyard of the man who lacks judgement; thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins.  I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw:…”  And he continues on with what he learned…

But here’s what caught my attention…he applied his heart to his observations.  First, he took the time to observe, what could be a scene or moment not worth anyone else’s attention.  He observed.  He took the time to be aware of his surroundings.  He wasn’t caught up in strictly getting from point A to point B, but took in life or lack thereof, that was around him.  Then he learned.  He learned a lesson in life and about life.

There is always the opportunity to learn, not just lessons in life, but about people, about situations, etc.  Wake up and Live.  Are you awake?  Life is happening all around us.  What have you learned today?
